Local Foods
Why Buy Local?
Buying local invests in our community and connects us directly to our food supply. It gives us a chance to meet our farmers and learn the many factors involved in producing our food.
When Can I Buy Local Foods?
Outside of a few winter months, typically you can buy fresh Virginia fruits and vegetables throughout the year. Look at the ‘Fruit and Vegetable Availability Chart’ link below to see the growing and harvest seasons for different produce. Nonperishable foods that are processed in Virginia – like grains and specialty items (ie. jams, sauces, salsas) – as well as meat and dairy products are available year-round.
